Exploring the Meaning, Tafsir, and Spiritual Benefits of Surah Ma’idah Ayat 67
Have you ever felt a deep sense of fear or anxiety about what others might do or say to you? In moments of vulnerability, we all seek a protector. For the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, that ultimate assurance came in a single, powerful sentence: “Wallahu yasimuka minannas.”
Let’s dive deep into this verse from Surah Al-Ma’idah (Ayah 67) to understand how it changed the course of Islamic history and how it can bring peace to your life today.
1. The Divine Verse: Arabic, Transliteration & Translation
To truly connect with the Quran, we must first look at the words as they were revealed.
Arabic Text:
يَا أَيُّهَا الرَّسُولُ بَلِّغْ مَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ ۖ وَإِن لَّمْ تَفْعَلْ فَمَا بَلَّغْتَ رِسَالَتَهُ ۚ وَاللَّهُ يَعْصِمُكَ مِنَ النَّاسِ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الْكَافِرِينَ
Transliteration: Ya ayyuha ar-rasulu balligh ma unzila ilayka mir-rabbika, wa-in lam taf’al fama ballaghta risalatahu. Wallahu ya’simuka minan-nas. Innallaha la yahdiyal-qawmal-kafirin.
English Translation: “O Messenger, announce that which has been revealed to you from your Lord, and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. And Allah will protect you from the people. Indeed, Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.”
Urdu Translation
(اردو ترجمہ):
اے رسول! جو کچھ آپ کے رب کی طرف سے آپ پر نازل کیا گیا ہے اسے پہنچا دیجئے، اور اگر آپ نے ایسا نہ کیا تو آپ نے اس کا پیغام نہیں پہنچایا۔ اور اللہ لوگوں (کے شر) سے آپ کی حفاظت فرمائے گا۔ بے شک اللہ کافروں کو ہدایت نہیں دیتا۔
2. Why was this Verse Revealed?
Historians and scholars (like Imam Ahmad and Al-Bukhari) note that before this revelation, the Prophet ﷺ was often guarded by his companions. He lived under constant threat of assassination from various tribes.
The Moment of Change
When this verse was revealed, the Prophet ﷺ did something remarkable. He poked his head out of his tent and told his guards:
“O people, you may go. Allah has already granted me protection.”
Linguistic Gem: The word Ya’simuka (يَعْصِمُكَ) comes from ‘Ismah, meaning an impenetrable barrier. It isn’t just “help”; it is a total immunity from being killed or stopped before the mission is complete.
3. Benefits and Wazifa of “Wallahu Yasimuka Minannas”
While this verse was specifically for the Prophet’s physical safety during his mission, scholars have shared spiritual benefits for believers who recite it with sincerity.
Spiritual Benefits:
- Removing Social Anxiety: It reminds the heart that no human can harm you without Allah’s permission.
- Courage in Truth: It gives a “Da’ee” (caller to Islam) the strength to speak the truth even when it’s unpopular.
- Protection from Evil Eye (Nazar): Many uses it as a shield against the jealousy of people.
Recommended Wazifa:
Note: There is no specific Hadith mandating a number, but many spiritual elders suggest:
- To remove fear of enemies: Recite this specific part (Wallahu ya’simuka minan-nas) 11 times after Fajr and Maghrib.
- For protection during travel: Recite it 3 times before leaving your home.
5. My Reflection: A Lesson for Us
As I studied this verse, I realized something beautiful. We often spend our lives trying to please “the people” because we fear their judgment or their harm. But Allah says: I will protect you from them.
If you are standing on the truth, if you are being honest in your business, or if you are simply trying to be a good person in a harsh world—remember this verse. The people do not hold your destiny; Allah does.
